Despite being called a prequel, Wicked is not really part of the Oz books canon.
I'm sorry guys, but seriously Wicked and The Wizard of Oz are not the same story.
I am few of who likes Elphaba and Dorothy? For your information Wicked and The Wizard of Oz are NOT the same story. The Wizard of Oz was WAY before Wicked and Wicked was originally a revicionist novel for adults.
The musical is just the novel toned down (like is been Disneyfied) and they made it changes for example Fiyero WAS not the Scarecrow, in the orignal novel he was married unhappily to a woman named Sarima had three children and he and Elpahba made an affair and the Wizard's secret police bruttaly murdered Fiyero.
Heck the original book of The Wizard of Oz was more darker than the movie (the tin man said he chopped the heads of birds and the Wizard really sent Dorothy and the gang to kill the Witch!).
Oh something else, don't blame Dorothy for the death of Nessarose, in the musical it was Madame Morrible who created the tornado to lure out Elphaba, so instead of blaming Dorothy, blame Madame Morrible for Nessa's death.
Despite that, I still like the songs and the 1939 movie but seriously, stop comparing them together.

Funny thing is, yesterday I was talking about 'Wicked' the musical, and right in the middle of me talking, this girl just butts in by randomly talking about the wizard of oz movie. I told her, THERE NOT THE SAME!!
I like Wicked and all, but I just can't accept it as canon. There are too many inconsistencies and plotholes in it for it to match up with the original source material and the sad thing is that it is accepted as canon. I just see Wicked as a decent fanfiction that has a profit behind it, in all honesty. Just wondering, have you read the original books?
I've read the first one and am working on the second one, and so far I would recommend it. It's a pretty easy read and it's just brilliant, however it's sad that there aren't that many people that know about the series...
Yeah that's probably the biggest reason why. While it is a good movie, it really takes artistic liberties from the book but I really don't kind with some of the changes. Heck, if they crammed the whole book in detail-for-detail, it would probably be a two and a half hour long movie. Or something like that. Point is it would be very long. :b

No I didn't, but I know about them from wikipedia
